The Legend from the Shadows

People of Hyrule have known about the relationship of the Sheikah and the Royal family for ages. Well, not for ages, but for a long time… But how is that? How did the shadow folk and the Royal family meet themselves? Why indeed. That’s the legend only told for the Sheikah. It’s not written down anywhere, or at least it should not be…
But still, here is the legend from the shadows. I decided to write it down, so it will never be forgotten. (For Nayru’s love, I hope so deeply I won’t get caught…!) I guess I should start from the very beginning…
From the haystack.

“Ow! Ow, ow! Stop that!!” The scream of a young girl was heard. She crawled out from the haystack in the Lon Lon Ranch and turned around to glare her worse enemy so far. The chicken. The red haired girl rubbed her aching nose, and cursed the chicken, which was surely some kind of demon, when the son of the ranch’s current owner ran in.
“Woah!” He gasped. “Just who are you!?”
But before he could clearly see the girl’s face or hear an answer, she was gone with a flash of light. The boy rubbed his eyes and blinked them amazed. What was that?
“Talon?” The owner of the ranch came in. “Who were you talking to?” he questioned and looked around the empty barn. Empty, if we don’t count the chickens and the hay. The cows were outside at this time of the day.
“There was a girl right here!” Talon tried to explain waving his hands. “She had weird clothes and red hair, and then something flashed and she was gone and-… Dad?“ He gave a weird look when he saw his father throwing the hay all over. The man stood up and mumbled something, clearly annoyed.
“There’s one chicken missing!!” He snarled. “Darn those Sheikahs…”

“Mom! Mom!” the very same Sheikah girl giggled and ran towards the woman she called as her mom.
“What is it, Zhela?” The woman mostly covered in bandages, though, she was no hurt, turned around and gave her daughter an amazed look. “Just where did you get that!?” the woman gasped, while her daughter smirked proudly.
“I got it from the ranch!” she told, and showed the angry chicken she was carrying. “In the middle of the day!”
Zhela’s mother kneeled down and rubbed her daughters red check a little, but still too much.
“Ow!”
“I didn’t mean the chicken, darling!” the woman explained and sighed. “You have bruises all over your face! You’ll need bandages for real soon! Don’t tell me you were seen by someone and you got into a fight…”
“It was the chicken!” Zhela whined. “It is a demon! I swear it!” Clearly, the chicken didn’t like to be called as a demon, so it nipped the red haired girl’s cheek again. “Ow! You see, mom!?”
The mother sighed and laughed a little. She took the chicken and patted her daughters head covered with bandages.
“Yes, yes”, she smiled. “Thank you for risking your life for all the Sheikah”, the woman smirked and blinked her purple eye.
“Mom!!”
“Now, now. Calm down, won’t you? Go ask if someone has a little bit of potion to borrow. It’ll heal your wounds.”
And so, while mumbling something about those cursed chickens, Zhela left to ask for some red potion, also stolen from the Castle Town, of course. You see, the Hylians and the Sheikah didn’t like each other very much… The Hylians didn’t sell anything for the Sheikah, and so they had to steal everything. Have to say, they didn’t feel bad for it. At all.
“Oh, Zhela! You got into a fist fight?” laughed the Sheikah known as Sham. It wasn’t his real name, but the Hylians liked to call him as that, since he usually acted as a Hylian, and then stole what he needed. Sham was a real kind Sheikah, who owned one kind of shop in the little camp of the Sheikah, which was located nearby the Death Mountain. Or, well… Maybe the shop isn’t the best word, since people really didn’t pay for anything. They asked for what they needed, and Sham just happened to have it, he’d give it away. If you’d ever steal anything from the town like potions, shields or fairies, you’d bring them to Sham.
Zhela mumbled something, and made sure for Sham she didn’t want to talk about it.
“I guess you’re in a need for red potion?” Sham questioned and got a nod for an answer. He searched through all cabinets and boxes he had, but came back shaking his head. “Sorry. There’s nothing left!” he shrugged. Zhela got confused.
“What? Nothing? Not even a fairy?”
“Nope! You know it’s getting more and more difficult to get stuff like that…” Sham sighed sadly and then smirked. “But it’ll never get too difficult for the Sheikah! There’s no Hylian who could beat one of us!” Sham looked into Zhela’s purple eyes, very much like her mother’s, and told he’d get the potion the day after tomorrow.
“Eeeh!?” Zhela groaned. “I’ll have to wait that long?”
“Definitely!” the man nodded. “You do know there’s not many of us, and we’re all quite busy. I have something to do tomorrow, and it’s already too late to go today.”
“Then I’ll go myself!” The young Sheikah snorted.
“Don’t even think about it!” Sham warned. He wasn’t this serious too often. “You’re not that good yet! Besides weren’t you supposed to get some bread with your mother tonight?”
“Well, yes, but!”
“Don’t even try that! Promise me you won’t go.” Zhela sighed and rolled her eyes.
“I won’t go steal red potion tonight…” Sham gave her a strict look. He wasn’t completely happy with that promise yet.”… Or any other night.”
“That’s our Zhela”, Sham smiled. “Go play with someone.”
“Like who?” the Sheikah snarled while leaving. “There’s no other children in this darn camp!”
But just when she got out, she smirked. I wonder can any child really smirk like that? If there was a demon here, it was surely Zhela… She really had an evil mind sometimes. Yes. She had promised to not go get the potions any night.
But she hadn’t said anything about stealing during the day, right?

So the next morning there was no Zhela in the camp. All the Sheikahs, which meant about 30 people, were searching for her, but they weren’t actually worried. Zhela used to do things like that. Suddenly disappeard somewhere, and then got back with something. Like a chicken. But Zhela’s mother weren’t actually happy neither.
“Why during the day…?” She muttered and sighed. You see, Zhela wasn’t that good thief yet. She had stolen something during the day only a few times. Stealing during the daylight wasn’t something the Sheikah would do. The night was their time.
“Don’t worry”, Sham suddenly appeared and smiled. “I bet she just went off to Lon Lon Ranch or something.”
“I guess…!” Zhela’s mother shook her head. “I’ve told her many times not to go… She’s so stubborn sometimes!”
Meanwhile the very same girl was nowhere near the Lon Lon Ranch. She had just climbed over the huge wall surrounding the Castle Town, and was now sneaking closer to the market where the potions were sold. Zhela hid behind the house, where no one could see and started to make a plan. There’s the first reason she wasn’t allowed to steal on her own during the day. She never made a plan first!
After thinking and thinking she couldn't come up with an usable plan. What am I even doing here? She asked from herself. Why wouldn't I just wait, this doesn't hurt so much-
"Ouch. That bruise must really hurt", someone said. Zhela sighed and nodded.
"Yeah, but not tha-" Zhela suddenly turned her face to see the boy sitting next to her.  The boy had a blonde hair, and ordinary looking clothes. He  had to be about the same age as Zhela, or at least he looked like it.
Zhela looked at the blue eyed boy like a ghost or monster. The boy tilted his head and laughed a little.
"You afraid of me?" he questioned, and made Zhela come back to her senses. The girl immediately shook her head and gave the boy a nasty look. She put her hand in her pocket on the right side to get a deku nut in her hands. That would blind the boy for a moment and give Zhela time to get away.
But there was nothing in her pocket. Zhela felt a sweat drop on her forehead, and she gulped. No good. Soon the boy would shout for the other people and... Wait, why hadn't he done it already?
The boy tilted his head again and looked at the embarrassed and confused girl.
"You must be the one who stole the chicken yesterday", he said then for Zhela's surprise.
"How did you know that?" She asked with strict voice. She wasn't afraid, but a little nervous. What was with this boy?
"There are posters all over this town", the boy told. "You're a wanted person", he smirked. "Are you a Sheikah?"
Stupid question, Zhela thought, but what she said was more like: "It's none of your business." The girl crossed her arms, looked away and snorted. That was kinda clear answer for the question. Besider now one could possibly miss that huge red eye with a tear drop in the middle of her shirt. The boy looked at the girl a little sadly with his deep blue eyes.
"Aw, why are you being so mean?"
Something in Zhela's head went wrong.
"Me? Mean!?" She shouted, for her mistake. "What about you!? You are the-"
"Quiet!!" She boy hissed and put his hand on Zhela's mouth.
"Hey? How's there?" the voice of a stranger was heard, and he was coming closer. The boy snorted and grabbed the Sheikah's hand. "Come on. I know a good hide."
"I don't need your help!" Zhela muttered and freed her hand. The boy shrugged.
"Fine. I can let them have you. They'll put you in the jail and tomorrow morning you've probably been hanged already. But it's none of my business, right?"
Zhela was about to say something, when she understood the boy made a good point. She muttered something about the cursed Hylians and the deku nuts, which were suddenly missing and then asked the boy to show the place to hide. The boy grabbed her hand again and smirked.
"You're cute when you're blushed like that!" he laughed and started to pull the girl forward, in the side street.
"What!?"
"Hey, if you continue screaming like that we'll be surely caught!"
Zhela snorted and ran after the boy behind a pile of empty barrels. There was a little hole in the wall of the house where they could sneak in. They sat there quietly holding their breath when they heard some Hylians ran outside wondering where did those kids go.
"Was it just me, or was the another one Sheikah?" one questioned.
"I saw that too. But why would a Sheikah be with a Hylian?" another wondered.
"That couldn't be a Hylian. I bet it was just another Sheikah dressed up like the normal people should."
"Like Sham junior?"
"Yeah, whatever. Let's keep searching! We must not let them escape!"
The voices got more quiet and quiet, and when Zhela sighed for the relief, the boy started to giggle.
"What's so funny?" Zhela nagged.
"They think I'm a Sheikah...!" The boy started to laugh. "That's funny!"
"Aw, shut up! Why didn't you let them have me?" The girl decided to ask something that had bothered her for some time already. The boy wiped out a tear which had appeared while him laughing and smirked.
"Well, you see, I happen to be hiding too."
"From the ones like you?" Zhela wondered. "That's ridiculous!"
"I'm not exactly like everyone...", the boy mumbled. "Kinda, but then not. At least no one treats me like a normal Hylian!" As the girl lifted her another eyebrow and gave the boy a quizzing look the boy gave the girl his hand. "May I introduce myself? I am Remevo, the Prince of Hyrule."
Zhela's jaw dropped. Then she laughed a little.
"Haha, bad joke." Remevo just shrugged.
"Don't mind if you don't believe me, but you may just call me Reme. And you are?"
"Why should I tell you my name?" Zhela snapped.
"I just kind of saved your life." Reme made a point, and made Zhela roll her eyes.
"Hmh. I'm Zhela, but you'd better not act like you'd know me."
"Are all the Sheikah as mean as you?" Reme asked.
"If someone's mean here it's you and the others like you", Zhela shouted. "We haven't done anything bad for you, and still you treat us like criminals!"
Reme smirked. "Are you telling me, that stealing other people's stuff is not something a criminal would do?" Zhela blushed again.
"We started to do that after you didn't sell us anything..."
Reme thought for a moment and nodded then.
"That's what I told to my parents."
"Eh?"
Reme sighed and closed his eyes.
"As long as we Hylians and the Sheikah keep hating each other there will be such a thing as "peace" in this kingdom. That's why I'd like to be friends with the Sheikah. You wouldn't have to steal anymore, and everything would be much more simpler!"
Zhela looked at Reme, but it was not a nice look. In the Sheikah's eyes the boy looked very suspicious. Could there really be a good Hylian like him?
"So why haven't you done that", Zhela wanted to know so badly. "Everyone knows where our camp is! You would have came and talk to us!"
"Without you taking me as a prison or something to threat Hylians? I don't think so."
"Hey, we're not like that!", Zhela tried to defend the Sheikah's honour. "Oh well most of us, but... Fine, you couldn't have done that. "
"But now I could..." The boy whispered and looked straight into Zhela's purple eyes. It took a moment from the girl to figure out what the boy meant by that.
"Please, take me to your camp, so I can talk with the other Sheikahs!"
After thinking a while Zhela started to giggle a little.
"Hah!" She laughed. "I made the future king of Hyrule beg in front of me! That's something to brag about!"
"So you'll take me?" Reme wanted to be sure about it.
"If you'll get us safely out of here. I'm out of deku nuts."
"Out of what?"
"Seesh! Whatever, do you know a way out!?"
"Of course! ... I mean... There's a gate, but..."
Zhela couldn't believe her ears. He gave the boy a desperate look.
"C'mon! You live here! You should know the town!"
Reme crossed his arms.
"They never let me out of the castle! This is like the first time I've ever been outside the walls of my room! That's why I'm hiding everyone! I don't want to go back!"
Zhela got a little bit confused. She had always thought the Royals could do whatever they wanted. Then she sighed.
"Well, the plan is up to me then! We'll have to wait until the sunset..."

Just before the sunset Reme woke the tired Sheikah up. The girl mumbled something and rubbed her eyes. She had been awake the last night and the last day. She needed some rest, darn it!
"There's something going on in the town!" Reme explained fast. He seemed very uneasy, and Zhela suddenly got a really bad feeling. "Listen!" The girl focused and listened, and with her pointed ears like the Hylians had she could clearly hear some shouting and voices of a fight from the town.
"What in the world...?" She mumbled and crawled out from the house the same way they had came in. "Come on!"
"What!?" Reme whimpered. "But you don't know what's going on there! It could be dangerous..."
"Yesterday you seemed so brave...! What happened to you?" Zhela snapped out. "You can stay, if you want, your highness, but I'm going to excuse me!" She rudely said and ran away leaving the confused prince behind.
While Zhela got closer the market, the voices got louder. Now it was sure, there was really some kind of fight going on. Zhela turned around the corner and gasped.
The Hylians and the Sheikah. They were fighting, and Zhela saw some people had some serious injury. She stared at this terrible act able to do nothing. She was so confused. What was this? Why were they fighting?
"Look out!" Zhela heard a familiar voice, but couldn't see the face when she was pushed down in the ground.  She groaned for the pain and wondered what in the world had just happened. She heard someone else was groaning too.
"Reme?" Zhela asked.
"Mmh..." She got very unclear answer, but it was definitely him. Zhela sighed.
"Would you mind to get off from me...? You're heave, and I have to stop these people..."
The boy didn't answer, but slowly he stood up and so did Zhela.
"Thanks", she said and turned around to see the boy. "You oka-" The Sheikah got all shocked. Reme was standing in front of her calmly even there was a huge shard of glass in his chest. The blood was dripping out, but they boy was smiling. He nodded slowly, but everyone could see he was not okay.
"I'm fine..." he whispered and fainted.
"REME!!" Zhela screamed more loudly than she had ever thought she could and kneeled down. "Remevo!!"
All the people fighting in the background suddenly stopped. They turned to look int eh way the voice was heard. The Hylians recognized the name of their prince, and the Sheikahs would always know for who that voice belonged to. Anyone wasn't interesting in fighting anymore. They all ran towards the kids to see what had happened.
Tears were rolling down on Zhela's red cheeks. She was screaming for the royal's name over and over again, and telling this was no time for terrible joke like this, but she got no answer or the smirk Remevo so often had had on his face.
"Zhela!" The girl's mother wrapped her arms around the girl and hugged her tight, but Zhela didn't seem to notice her. "We were all so worried when you didn't come back!", the mother cried. "We thought the Hylians got you or...!" Just by now the mother noticed what for was the girl crying for. But... He was a Hylian!
"He was protecting me!" Zhela cried. "It's my fault! We have to help him!" Some of the Hylians got a bit confused. Why had their prince done that?
"But he's a Hylian..." Sham of the Sheikah suddenly appeared. Zhela shook her head.
"I don't care!" The Hylians had already picked their young prince up and were taking him to the castle. Zhela's mother looked at Sham, who shook his head and smiled sadly.
"That's our stubborn Zhela. We have bandages ore than we'll ever need for real. We should borrow some for him."
"But...", The mother wasn't sure.
"That boy just saved your daughter's life. She owes hers to him. Besides this stupid hate between the Hylians and the Sheikah had continues too long already."
Zhela looked up from the ground into Sham's purple eyes as the tears of sadness and joy were coming out her owns. Sham smiled and gave his hand.
"Let's go visit the castle."

After three days the prince finally woke up. The first person he saw for his surprise, was indeed a Sheikah.
"You idiot!" She said, but Reme saw the tear rolling down her cheek. "Don't you dare to scare me like that!"
Reme smirked the way he always used to do. It was a huge relief for Zhela. For all these days she has feared Reme would never wake up. But it was the same Remevo she had met and became friends with four days ago.
"Sorry...!" Reme asked. "Would you mind to tell me how in the world are you in here...?" He laughed, but sounded nervous. A Sheikah in the castle in the prince's room. Not good. How did Zhela even get in? The guards were pretty strict...
"Well, you know, just the way most people are..." Zhela told and shrugged. "I came in from the door and sat down. Need any more details?"
"Uh..."
"Oh, yeah, I'm your personal bodyguard from now on."
"What!?"
"Fine!! I was officially your bodyguard already when you woke up!"
"I don't understand a thing!" Reme whined. He had never been this confused in his life.
"You only have to understand you won't get a rid of me, and I'll always look after you and stuff. Anything else is unnecessary", Zhela said. She really did not explain anything clearly, but Reme was a way too tried to even try to understand anything. Even he had just slept for three days!
"I see..." He mumbled.
"That means you don't."
"Exactly. But I think that means... I wonder..." The boy took a deep breath. "We don't hate each other anymore?"
Zhela laughed loudly.
"I'll always hate you, but if you meant the Hylians and the Sheikah, then yes. There's a real peace now, and we actually started to build a village on the place of our camp."
"Wow... That means I seriously missed something..."
"I bet ya did, you sleepyhead!"
Then Zhela suddenly gave a short kiss on Reme's cheek and made his face turn red. She laughed.
"You're cute when you're blushed like that!"

And that's how it went. It all started from a little children and a demon chicken. (Ow! Stop that!!) The Sheikah tribe started to protect the Royal family as a thank you, but later on it became a deep friendship.
This day, the village the Sheikah started to build is known as the Kakariko village. There's not only Sheikahs living here this day, but Hylians too. Actually, there's not any single Sheikah there. But somehow there always is one Sheikah to protect the Royal family. No one knows where do they come from or where do they live, but everyone knows there are still a few of that tribe left.

And they'll always be there.
Protecting Hyrule from the Shadows.
Finally done! .__. I'm tired...
